Administrative/Biographical History
The Peachtree Creek Garden Club of Atlanta, Georgia, was organized in 1944 to "foster a more friendly community and engage in the study of gardening and flower arrangement and any other subjects interesting or beneficial to the membership, and to sponsor any civic projects which shall be for the betterment of the community." The club was governed by officers elected annually by members, such as president, vice president, and treasurer. The club was a member of The Garden Club of Georgia, Inc. and the Garden Center of Atlanta. The club was active in the development of the Peachtree Creek neighborhood and worked with county and city officials to have Peachtree Battle Avenue paved as well as improve mail service, traffic controls, sewer conditions, and to install a new bridge on Howell Mill Road over Peachtree Creek. The club also supported several organizations such as the Women's Volunteer Corps, Atlanta Metropolitan Area of Civil Defense, the Veterans Hospital, and the American Red Cross. The club was active in regional and state gardening organizations and participated in numerous flower shows.
