Administrative/Biographical History

The Clifton Road Garden Club of Atlanta, Georgia, was formed in 1938 to "beautify unsightly places in the community by the study of plants and flowers, protect native plants, trees, and birds, and encourage backyard, lawn and civic planting." The club was governed by a board of elected officers including president, vice-president and treasurer. The club was an active member of both The Garden Club of Georgia, Inc. and the Atlanta Garden Center. The club participated in local flower shows winning numerous awards. The club's largest civic project was the beautification of two neighborhood triangles at the intersections of Clifton Road and Oxford Road and at Clifton Road and East Clifton Road. The club also supported Lawson General Hospital, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Free Cancer Home, and the American Red Cross.
