Scope and Content
The Sadie Martin Partridge papers include a narrative reminiscence of her youth and photocopies of newsclippings from 1972. In the narrative, Sadie describes the life of a well-to-do young girl in turn-of-the-century Atlanta. She emerges as a spunky, flirtatious young woman. She also describes the millinery trade in Atlanta, social activities of the time period, and her memories of the 1906 Atlanta race riot. The newsclippings feature Sadie much later in her life, when she babysat to earn extra money for her exotic travels.

Administrative/Biographical History
Sadie Estelle Martin was born in Atlanta on October 10, 1893, the daughter of William C. and Mattie Martin. Her mother operated a millinery on Marietta Street, and her father was a real estate developer. The family lived first on Dillon Street, then on Gerard Avenue, and finally at 46 Elizabeth Street in the newly-developed Inman Park. Sadie attended Miss Hannah's Private School for a time. After completing her formal education, she managed the millinery on Marietta Street. After William C. Martin's death in 1910, Sadie quit working at the millinery and soon after married Arthur Partridge. She died on May 10, 1980.
