Scope and Content

This collection contains transcriptions of two diaries accompanied with annotations made by the transcriber. One is the diary of R.S. Norton and the other was written by William Towers after the war. Each details company movements & discusses significant deaths of each battle. Norton also includes comments on rising prices of various staples and dry goods.

R.S. Norton of Rome, Georgia had several sons who fought in the Civil War, and he was able to travel to the different camps and hospitals to visit his sons during the war. The second part of the transcript was written by William Towers describing his service with General Nathan Bedford Forrest's Cavalry.
