Administrative/Biographical History

James E. Chandler was an officer of Captain Charles H. Lewis, Company B, 15th Regiment of New York Volunteers. He enlisted on September 1, 1862 and served three years. He was discharged on June 13, 1865 at Fort Barry, Virginia, by reason of Special Order No. 142 Headquarters. James E. Chandler was born in New York City. He was 27 years old at the time of the discharge and was listed as a carpenter. The discharge also gives his physical description which indicates that he was 5'5" high, with a light complexion, light eyes and light hair.
