Administrative/Biographical History
The Cascade Garden Club, Inc. of Atlanta, Georgia, was organized in 1933 to "stimulate the love and culture of flowers among amateurs, and to encourage civic planting and to inspire others of our neighborhood and community to beautification through our efforts on our own premises and gardens." In 1935, the club became a member of The Garden Club of Georgia, Inc. The club was also a member of the National Council of Garden Clubs, Inc., a charter member of the Garden Center of Greater Atlanta, and the Fulton County Federation of Garden Clubs. The club was governed by elected officers such as president, vice president, and treasurer. One of the club's earliest civic projects was the neighborhood beautification of the area of Cascade Road Southwest, Venetian Drive Southwest, and Boulevard Granada Southwest, as well as maintaining a garden triangle at the entrance to Cascade Heights. The club supported many organizations such as the Fort McPherson Hospital, the Garden Therapy Program at the Central State Hospital in Milledgeville, Georgia, the State Botanical Garden of Georgia, and the Atlanta Botanical Garden. The club also contributed to the Garden Club of Georgia's annual scholarship fund for the University of Georgia. The club hosted and participated in many flower shows, winning numerous awards.
