Scope and Contents

This series contains records from Court of Ordinary, which in 1974 was renamed Probate Court. The Court holds jurisdiction over probate and administrative functions; specific duties include recording keeping for estates and wills probated, administration of estates and guardianship, and administering marriage and certain business licenses. Documents in the series include record books that list properties exempt from sale; inventory and appraisement property books; transcripts of estate papers; docket books with official court proceedings; and annual and final returns books of estates filed and audited. Additional material includes indexes to returns and estate files, bonds, an account of minors, and records of absentee military votes. The examptions, the apprisement books, and the docket books through May 28, 1938 have indexes at the front of each volume.
