Family, 1860 – 1950

 Series
Collection number: Series 1

Scope and Contents note

Photographs of Dr. Albert Allen, his immediate family, and relatives and friends in the Boland, Collier, Harris, and Rawson families. Dr. Albert was related to the Harris, Collier, and Rawson families through his wife, Emily Davis Albert. Most of the items in this series are studio portraits. Images of Dr. Allen include those taken in the 1950’s. The photographs also consist of images of his wife and several members of the Collier family, and Harris families, including Julia Collier Harris, a writer and daughter-in-law of Joel Chandler Harris. Julia Harris wrote for several newspapers, including the Atlanta Constitution, and was one of only two women journalists to cover the signing of the Treaty of Versailes in 1919. As associate editor of the Columbus (GA) Enquirer Sun, Harris and her husband Julian won the first joint Pulitzer Prize in Journalism in 1926 This series also contains photographs of members of the Rawson family, including businessman Edward E. Rawson and Florida Fort (second wife of William Rawson, older brother of Edward). Other images include the family of Dr. Frank Boland, Atlanta physician, who presumably was an acquaintance of Dr. Albert, and "Dr. Logan" whose relation to either family is unclear.
