Scope and Content
Series III contains portraits and snapshots of friends and associates of the Long, Rucker, and Aiken families. Portraits include Judge Irvin C. Mollison, who married Alice Rucker; Walter McElreath; Yvonne Smith Partee; American Medical Association founder Henry Rutherford Butler; and his wife, Parent Teacher Association (PTA) founder Selena Sloan Butler. Other African American religious and educational leaders include Charles L. Harper, principal of Booker T. Washington High School; A.M.E. Bishop John Wesley Gaines; undertaker David T. Howard; and Emmitt J. Scott, personal secretary to Booker T. Washington. Included in the collection are images of children, college students, weddings, pets, and the funeral for boxer Tiger Flowers in 1927. Also included are images of unidentified individuals.
