Scope and Content

Series II contains images pertaining to the life of Walter Aiken. This series contains images documenting Aiken's career as a football and basketball coach at Atlanta University and Fisk University. Included in the series is a 1923 Atlanta University Scrapbook. Images in the series also document Aiken Incorporated building and construction projects in the West End and Dixie Hills neighborhoods of Atlanta and elsewhere in the United States. Images include housing on Lawton Street, First Street, Rosser Street, Fair Street, and Simpson Road in Atlanta, Georgia. The series contains images of Aiken's civic and social interests such as the Negro Federal Housing Administration, the National Association of Real Estate Brokers, and the Walter Aiken Singers. The series documents his club activities at the Twenty-Seven Club and the Hungry Club Forum at the Butler Street YMCA and other social events with his wife, Lucy Rucker Aiken. The series also contains a scrapbook of images of Aiken during his service with the 371st Infantry in World War I.
