Scope and Content
Kurtz produced a large collection of paintings and a few are represented in this series. The pieces are watercolors or pen and ink and primarily depict scenes of a historical nature. Of particular interest are those related to Andrews' Raid. Kurtz created pieces of the Lacy Hotel at Big Shanty, Georgia based upon his research and interviews with individuals involved with Andrews' Raid or familiar with the hotel.
Also included is a small collection of paintings by others. Most significant are the pieces related to the Atlanta Cyclorama. There are two sketches used by the artists during the creation of the canvas and six small to medium sized pieces of canvas the artists painted to use as examples while painting the cyclorama.
