Scope and Contents of the Records

This collection contains original land indentures between residents of Greene County, Georgia from 1818-1919. The majority of the indentures consist of property being conveyed to Charles Alfred Davis from other Greene County residents. Some residents from whom Davis purchased land include; Adam T. Scott, William A. Florence, Albert Merritt, T. N Poullain, Joseph P. Walker, and Andrew Mason. In addition to these, there are also seven indentures that predate Charles Alfred Davis. The people involved in these indentures include; John Watkins, George Phillips, John White, Thomas Stocks, Mary Colt, A. B. Longstreet, Henry Merrill, Adam T. Scott, and Sterling A. Gresham. The files also include survey and plat diagrams of the C.A Davis estate from 1868-1891. The portions of land portrayed in these plat diagrams are; Fleetwood Land, Chambers tract of Horseshoe Bend, Cochran Place, Albert Merritt tract, John Merritt tract, Dejarnette tract, and the Walker tract.. Next in the collection are four legal documents (Fi Fa’s) regarding money owed to Adam T. Scott and Charles A. Davis from Guy Ward and Albert Merritt. This collection then contains financial statements of the Davis family, and letters to Charles Alfred Davis Jr. regarding his father’s estate. Lastly, the collection contains empty envelopes that are labeled as title papers to the following pieces of the Charles Alfred Davis estate; the Colt lot, Cochran tract, Curtwright tract, Chambers portion of Horseshoe Bend Trace, Albert Merritt tract, John Merritt tract, Moses tract, and the Walker tract.
