Scope and Contents of the Records

From the Collection:

The Wednesday Morning Study Club Records primarily consist of the minute books, 1907-1979, annual program booklets, 1907-2008, and program papers, 1967-2008. The minute books document the activities of the organization and often provide a synopsis of the papers presented at the meeting. The topic of each paper conformed to a theme selected by the organization and was read aloud at the meeting. The minute books also provided a glimpse of the current events; however, one entry suggests the events should be uplifting and not of a bleak nature. Some events mentioned included the struggles of World War I, Spanish Influenza in Atlanta (1918), support of women’s suffrage, World War II, and the death of Martin Luther King Jr. Other notable events such as the stock market crash and subsequent depression or the assassination of President John F. Kennedy are not mentioned. The annual program booklets detailed the current club officers, the hostess for each meeting as well as the topics discussed.
