List of casualties, 1864 May 7-September 10
Scope and Content
This collection consists of a list of casualties suffered by the 23rd Alabama Volunteer Infantry between May 7, 1864, and September 10, 1864, while engaged in combat at several locations in Georgia including Rocky Face Ridge, Resaca, New Hope Church, Marietta, Kennesaw Mountain, and Jonesboro. The list contains the names of the men who were injured or killed and their rank and company. There is a "remarks" column where the company surgeon, J. M. Hunt, listed the place where the casualty occurred and described the injuries. He also noted whether the soldiers were recuperating, returned to duty, or died of their wounds. The final page contains a list of those killed, their rank, company, date and place killed, and a "remarks" column. Also included is a numerical recapitulation of all casualties suffered by the unit during the specified time period.
