This series includes legal records generated as a result of litigation filed against the proprietors of the Winecoff Hotel after a deadly fire in which 119 people died. Lokey’s correspondence includes letters to the hotel’s owner, Mrs. Annie Irwin, representatives of the hotel’s insurance representative, the Ocean Accident and Guarantee Corporation, and Atlanta Mayor William B. Hartsfield. Witness statements of hotel employees and guests which offer detailed and in some cases graphic accounts of the fire. Other records include an official report of the incident from insurance underwriters and inspection reports by the National Bureau of Standards and the Atlanta Fire Department.
