Series V: Atlanta airports, research and development, 1966-1981

 Series

Scope and Content

This series contains material about the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport prior, during, and after its 1977 expansion. The Atlanta Chamber of Commerce handled air route cases for the City and provided recommendations on how to both encourage and accommodate expanding air traffic in the city. This series also includes content about the proposed DeKalb airport and the Shannon Planning Community, a neighborhood located near the Hartsfield International Airport. The bulk of items are official documents such as reports, ordinances, and studies. There are also memos, correspondence, and booklets. Of particular note is a statement made by Vice Mayor Sam Massell Jr. in 1969 to support airport improvements in Atlanta.
