Scope and Contents
This series contains photographs, postcards, stereographs, and slides of Black American gardeners, landscapers, farmers, and their residential gardens, landscapes, yards, and farms, in both rural and urban areas. Included in the series are images of children playing as well as couples and families posing for photographs in gardens and landscapes. These images provide details such as landscape architecture, garden design, plant choices, land use, farming methods, and natural environments. Social and economic conditions are also reflected in these images. Locations are chiefly within the southeastern United States and are noted whenever known. Individual identities are also noted whenever possible.
