Scope and Contents

This series contains correspondence, financial records, histories, genealogical research, and newspaper clippings about the Hale family relatives, especially "William" Bradley Hale and his wife Anne Sheffield Hale. Also represented in this series are the Harrold and Long families. Included is research and correspondence with professional genealogists with requests for documents to support applications to patriotic societies such as The National Society of Colonial Dames, The Society of Colonial Wars, and the North Carolina Society of the Cincinnati. Also included are receipts and business cards from the Harrold Brothers firm of Americus, Georgia, which was a cotton and mercantile business that was founded by Thomas Harrold. It supplied financial provisions for the Confederate government, organizing a hydraulic cotton-compress company, a brick manufactory, and a fertilizer plant, and became involved in railroads, utilities, real estate, and banking.
