Scope and Contents
This series contains materials compiled by Harvey Smith Jr. about his personal and professional life. Included are certificates, correspondence, personal and professional financial records, invitations, papers from his service in the united States Marine Corps before and after World War II, and educational records. Additionally there are plays, poems, article clippings, event programs, donation records, real estate deeds, unfinished memoirs, and personal inventories. The series also contains original designs, sketches, prints, and papers from the Harvey Smith Company and Patterson Fabrics, Smith’s interior design and fabric businesses. In addition there are certificates, journals and personal papers from Smith’s parents. Of particular note are memories and articles about, and correspondence from, Smith's friends, including Margaret Mitchell (1900-1949), Anne Coppedge Carr (1917-2005) and artist Claud J. Herndon (1912-1980).
