Scope and Content

From the Series:

The majority of Alvin Ferst’s civic work related to the expansion and renovation of Atlanta’s transportation systems and the improvement of the urban landscape. This series contains reports, memoranda, correspondence and other records of Atlanta civic organizations that were involved in such efforts, including Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, Central Atlanta Progress, and the Atlanta Triangle Committee. In addition, Mr. Ferst served as President of Transfact, Inc., a private lobbying firm involved in local transportation issues. Mr. Ferst was also involved in the development of the Metropolitan Atlanta Transit Authority (MARTA). Other organizations in which he was active were the United Way, Atlanta Kiwanis Club and Georgia Institute of Technology. Although the bulk of the records in this series belong to Alvin Ferst, there are records documenting Charlotte Ferst's involvement in the League of Women Voters and Omicron Delta Kappa.
