Scope and Content

This collection contains copies of tombstone transcriptions for members of the Colley family, as well as members of the Daniel, Berry, Hight, and Perry families in the Colley Family Cemetery. Other items include a transcription of Joel Colley's will (written in 1850); typed excerpts from the Newton County deed book; and copies of letters to James G. Bogle and Franklin Garrett in the early 1970's.

Scope and Contents of the Records This collection contains five letters written by George Hewitt Daniel to his daughters, Emmaret and Virginia. These letters were written between January 24, 1862 and July 3, 1864 both before and during Daniel’s service in the 8th Georgia Infantry (St. Guards) Company I. Adj. The first letter in the collection was written prior to Daniel’s enlistment and includes details on his visit to the battlefield during the battle of Chickasaw Bayou2. Scope and Content

This collection contains research materials from James G. Bogle's study of George Hewett Daniel (1817-1964), a Confederate soldier. Materials include correspondence from literary agents as well newspaper clippings of Atlanta funerals. Also included is correspondence from Daniel to his daughters and information on his family's genealogy. Of particular note are manuscript drafts of parts II and III of Bogle's book titled George Hewitt Daniel (1817-1864).
