Scope and Contents of the Records

This collection contains images depicting the interior of the Exposition Cotton Mills and its employees, spinning equipment and copies of illustrations regarding the International Cotton Exposition of 1881 from Harper’s Weekly. Photographers featured in this collection include Gabriel Benzur, and Lane Brothers, of Atlanta, Georgia.

Scope and Content The collection consists of issues ofThe Exposition, a newspaper published for the employees of the Exposition Cotton Mills. The newspaper, published semi-monthly, printed primarily information pertaining to the mill and its employees. Some issues included advertisements for the mill store and beauty shop as well as leisure activities organized by the mill. Scope and Content

This collection consists of originals and photocopied cards, letters and newspaper clippings concerning major events in the Hill/Payne families. Included are several consolatory letters to Mrs. Laura N. Hill on the death of her husband, Mr. W. Rhode Hill, and to Mrs. J. Carroll Payne on the death of her mother, Mrs. Laura N. Hill. Photocopied newspaper clippings regarding the Payne-Smith and the Payne-Hopkins weddings are included in the collection.

Scope and Content This collection consists of a sales journal of land lots by Thomas L. Bishop, attorney at law, for Joseph E. Brown, of the "Brown Annex," which was located in District 22 (14th District) land lot 112, near the Exposition Cotton Mills. The sales journal lists the date of sale, a description of the land lot sold, the buyer's name, the amount paid by the buyer, and the expenses due in commission to Thomas L. Bishop.
