Biographical/Historical Note

The previous hitStrother next hit family line in the United States originates with William previous hitStrother next hit (1630-1702) who settled in what is now King George County, Virginia, near the town of Conway. He married Dorothy Savage (1631-1681) and together they had six sons: William (1652-1746), James, Jeremiah (1703-1741), Robert (1679-1735), Benjamin (1670-1752), and Joseph (1684-1763). This collection was primarily compiled by Arthur P. previous hitStrother next hit, Sr. (1875-1945) and his son Arthur P. previous hitStrother next hit, Jr. (1908-1994), although the collection was started by Henry previous hitStrother next hit (1829-1908), the father of Arthur previous hitStrother next hit, Sr. Henry previous hitStrother next hit was the great-grandson of Jeremiah previous hitStrother next hit.

Series I. Pedigree charts, 1936-1976, undated

10.8 Linear feet (26 document cases)
This series consists of pedigree charts compiled by Arthur Pryor previous hitStrother next hit, Jr. and to a lesser extent Arthur Pryor previous hitStrother next hit, Sr.. They contain geneaological information about the previous hitStrother next hit line and other related families. The Strothers compiled geneaological information in pedigree charts in multiple ways. Some pedigree charts are organized under a family surname, such as Thornton, Browning, Culpepper, and previous hitStrother next hit. Other pedigree charts are organized according to census dates, country, or an alphabetical listing of surnames. Information in the pedigree charts includes marriages, birth and death dates, and a listing of children according to family surname. The Strothers developed a coding system consisting of letters and numbers that appear throughout the records in the series. They used the numbers 1, 2, and 3 which represent William previous hitStrother's next hit (ca. 1630-1702) three sons. The letters reflect the number of children the sons had. For instance, if the first son had 5 children, they would be represented as 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D, and 1E. The numbers were used to match up specific descendents of the previous hitStrother next hit line to a particular offspring of William previous hitStrother next hit. The Strothers complied these pedigree charts in pursuit of thier avocation of tracing the previous hitStrother next hit family line.

4.0 Linear feet (6 document cases and 4 oversize boxes)
This series contains correspondence by and to Arthur P. previous hitStrother next hit, Sr, his brother Henry previous hitStrother next hit, and Arthur P. previous hitStrother next hit, Jr. The majority of the correspondence originated from individuals interested in learning about their family's genealogy who would write to the Strothers about a family member and their possible connection to the previous hitStrother next hit line. Many of the replies from the Strothers are included in the series. The Strothers also wrote to distant relatives and other people in the United States and Europe who they believed could supplement information about the previous hitStrother next hit line. The Strothers would contact individuals who shared the previous hitStrother next hit name to inquire if they shared the same ancestry and would ask them to send as much information on their family as they could. Other correspondence is between Arthur P. previous hitStrother next hit, Jr. and representatives of the Sons of the American Revolution in reference to his application to the group, and activities the group sponsored. Additional correspondence is between Arthur P. previous hitStrother next hit, Jr. and his more immediate relatives in which they wrote about their daily lives as well as their genealogical pursuits. The correspondence is arranged alphabetically by correspondent and indexed according to the family name referenced therein.
