Biographical/Historical Note

Letcher Ogle Grice was an officer in the U.S. Army during World War I. He was stationed in Washington, D.C., and then in Tours, France. During that time he worked in the salvage division as the chief statistician. After the war, he was appointed to the regular army and served in it until he died in the early 1960's. During World War I, he wrote almost daily to his wife, family, and friends and described, in great detail, his life in France and many historical events that he witnessed. He was born in Alabama in 1893, one of nine children, and lived in Atlanta, Georgia, prior to the war. He married Ruth Solomon of Fitzpatrick, Georgia, in 1917, and together they had three children. Additional biographical information about Letcher Ogle Grice has not been determined.
