Biographical/Historical Note

Dr. Chapmon Powell was a physician. He also served as sheriff of DeKalb County beginning on February 15, 1833 and serving until January 10, 1834. He also served as a member of the Georgia Legislature in 1836. He was married to Elizabeth Hardman. After her death in the 1850s, he moved to Atlanta where he practiced law until his death. Additional biographical information about Dr. Chapmon Powell has not been determined.

Scope and Content Note

This collection contains a bible, The New Testament of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ: Translated out of the Original Greek, and with the former translations diligently compared and revised. New York: stereotyped by A. Chandler, for "The American Bible Society." 1828. Powell paid $1.25 in an undetermined year.
