Biographical/Historical Note

Collection pertains to the American descendents of Laurent (Lawrence) Flournoy, Huguenot, who fled to Switzerland the night of St. Bartholomew's Massacre (1562). The first Flournoy to Virginia was Jacob in 1700 followed by his nephew, John James (Jean Jacques) several years later. Additional biographical information about the Flournoy family has not been determined.

Scope and Content Note

This collection consists primarily of letters, dated 1894-95, to or from Flournoy Rivers (born 1858) and/or John Flournoy Henry (seventh generation) researching history of the Flournoy family in America following request sent to all known Flournoys.
