Biographical/Historical Note

The Pine Tree Garden Club of Atlanta, Georgia, was formed in 1938 with the purpose of promoting interest in home gardening; beautifying the community through service projects; and participating in flower shows and competitions. The club was admitted into the Garden Club of Georgia in 1940. In 1947, the club began restoring and maintaining the grounds of the Atlanta Historical Society, formerly located in the Willis Jones House on Peachtree Road in Atlanta. When the society moved its headquarters to the Inman home on Andrews Drive in 1965, the club began maintaining the Boxwood Memorial Garden of the Swan House. The club has supported many other organizations such as the Georgia Conservancy, the Garden Therapy program at the Milledgeville State Hospital, the Red Cross, and the Sarah Smith Elementary School. The club continues to participate in and host numerous flower shows; attend annual Garden Club conventions; and play an active role in various community service projects.
