Biographical/Historical Note

Sam White was the guardian of the minor children and heirs of Thomas Doby, who died sometime before 1851. Both men were residents of Hancock County, Mississippi, and are listed in the land, census, and tax records of that county. Additional biographical information about Sam White has not been determined.

Scope and Content Note

This collection consists of a handwritten copy of a report made to the probate court of Hancock County, Mississippi, in 1853. In it, the guardian of Thomas Doby's children, Sam White, states the approximate date and place of death of two of Doby's children, Raphael and Eliza. White also reports the "death by accidental burning" of a slave child, Octave, who belonged to the Doby children.
