The Lenox Park Garden Club of Atlanta, Georgia, was organized in 1931 to "encourage the love, study, and culture of flowers, with the study of landscape gardening, and the cooperation in the improvement of public parks in Lenox Park when the Club deems necessary." The club is governed by a board of officers, elected by members, such as president, vice-president, and treasurer. The club joined The Garden Club of Georgia, Inc. in 1933 and was also an active member of the Atlanta Garden Center. One of the club's early community projects was the Rose Bowl Garden in Sussex Park (now named the Sunken Garden Park) and nearby Conservation Garden near the intersection of Sussex Road and East Rock Springs Road. In 1951, the club worked to promote a bill prohibiting billboards on the new Atlanta expressway, which was passed by Atlanta City Council in November of that year. In 1952, past-presidents Jean H. Neely and Peggy F. Hughes formed the Expressway Beautification Association, of which they served as co-chairmen, with the goal of improving the landscaping of the new North-South Expressway, now referred to as the I-75/85 or Downtown Connector, from downtown Atlanta to the Brookwood Station. The club participated in this beautification project until its completion in 1956. The club has also supported other organizations such as the Eventide Home for Elderly Women, Grady Memorial Hospital, Fernbank Forest Association, and the American Red Cross. The club has hosted and participated in numerous flower shows, winning many awards.
