Biographical/Historical Note

George Washinton Collier was born in 1813 to Meredith Collier and Elizabeth Gray who had fourteen children. In 1823 he moved with his family to Dekalb County, Georgia. One of his early jobs was to carry mail betweeen Decatur, Georgia and Allatoona, Georgia. He continued his career with the postal service by eventually becoming Postmaster of Atlanta. He owned a large amount of land in the Atlanta area including Five Points. He owned a general store and built the Aragon Hotel in 1892. He died in 1903.


Scope and Content Note

This collection contains a handwritten autobiography of George Washington Collier and includes Collier family history. Included is a transcription of the writings.
