Biographical/Historical Note

Julius L. Brown (1848-1910) was born in Canton, Georgia to Joseph E. Brown and Elizabeth Grisham Brown. He was educated at the University of Georgia and Harvard Law School. Julius served as a Confederate soldier with the Georgia Cadets. Later he was an attorney with the Western and Atlantic Railroad and with Georgia mining companies, including Dale Coal Company. He was a businessman, leader in fraternal orders, a community leader and ardent Baptist. He married Fannie G. Fort and had two daughters: Elizabeth and Martha Fort. He died September 4, 1910. Additional biographical information about Julius L. Brown has not been determined.

These paperse include documents from several court cases, and records of the Georgia Mining, Manufacturing and Investment Company. Other material includes scrapbooks about the Brown family.
