These papers consist of business and personal papers, including correspondence and financial records of Elijah A. Brown, Sr. and some of Elijah A. Brown, Jr. In addition, ther are papers pertaining to several Brown Family members, including Governor Joseph E. Brown, Julius I. Brown, and Marcus J. Brown.

Administrative/Biographical History

Elijah A. Brown, Sr. (1857-1926) was born in Canton, Georgia. His father was Governor Joseph E. Brown. Elijah Brown attended Boy's High School, Oglethorpe University and the University of Georgia. He married Henrietta Law McBride in 1894. They had one son, Elijah A. Jr. Later in life, Elijah Brown married Harriet Elizabeth Johnson. They had three children; Penelope, Marcus and Joseph. Elijah Brown was a director of Dade Coal Company and Georgia Savings Bank and Trust Company, and treasurer of the Joseph E. Brown Company. He is buried at Oakland Cemetery.
