Biographical/Historical Note

William Jonathan Northen was born in Jones County, Georgia in 1835. He graduated from Mercer University in 1853, became a teacher, and then served as Governor of Georgia from 1890-1894.

This collection includes telegrams, speeches, and research papers by William Jonathan Northen. Included are speeches on race relations in the South, the teaching profession, agriculture, religion, immigration, and other topics. Also included is a telegram from Booker T. Washington about a speaking engagement.
