Biographical/Historical Note

Dr. Robert Battey supervised Confederate hospitals during the Civil War, and maintained a gynecological practice in Rome, Georgia.


Scope and Content Note

This collection contains thirty-two letters to Dr. Robert Battey from other physicians and two replies by Battey. The correspondence deals primarily with gynecological consultations. Nine of the letters are from J. Marion Sims, an early practioner of gynecology in South Carolina, who at the time of the letters was living in Europe.
