Biographical/Historical Note

The Bleckley family of Atlanta, Georgia included Judge Logan Bleckley and wife Caroline Haralson Bleckley. The couple gave birth to three children, including Haralson, Katherine, and Logan. Haralson Bleckley (1870-1933) was an architect and designed Bleckley Plaza in Atlanta, Georgia. He married Olle Evans in 1911. His brother was clerk of the Georgia Supreme Court. Additional biographical information on the Bleckley family has not been determined.


Scope and Content Note

This collection includes correspondence of Harrison Bleckley, an Atlanta attorney. Correspondence includes documentation of his work in establishing Bleckley Plaza in Atlanta and other civic improvements in the city of Atlanta, and his membership in the Georgia chapter of the American Institute of Architects. Also included is feasibility report to the mayor and general council of the city of Atlanta about the plan to erect a plaza over the railroad gulch in downtown Atlanta that became known as the Bleckley Plan. The study includes maps, cost estimates, drawings, sketches, and correspondence. Also included are newspaper clippings, largely concerning Haralson Bleckley and the proposed plan. Other documentation includes correspondence and personal documents belonging to Judge Logan Bleckley and Katherine Bleckley, and an annoted copy of Georgia Cases and Citations belonging to K.C. Bleckley that was probably used by Logan Bleckley, Jr.
