Administrative/Biographical History

Brigadier General Frederick William Benteen was brevetted brigadier general for gallantry in saving those elements of the 7th Cavalry which were not trapped with General Custer at the Battle of Little Big Horn in 1876. His daughter, Anita, was married to Stephens Mitchell. Additional biographical information about Frederick William Benteen has not been determined.
