Scope and Content Note

The collection includes warranty and indenture deeds, wills, promissory notes, contracts, title abstracts, and other legal documents pertaining to members of the Smith family, primarily David and Jane Smith, and their son Owen. Warranty and indenture deeds describe title transfers of land in the 14th District of Fulton County, land lots 46, 51, 77, 85, and 117 where David Smith owned property beginning in the 1880s. The property deeds date from 1859 to 1913 and include names of several buyers and sellers who had been parties to transactions of land in these areas before the Smith family secured ownership. In addition, the collection includes the wills of David and Jane Smith, and their cousin Mary Crozier. Other documents include promissory notes, receipts, correspondence, certificates, and a piece of blank stationary with the letterhead of the Ku Klux Klan.
