Biographical/Historical Note

The Four Seasons Garden Club of Atlanta, Georgia, was organized in 1943 for the "stimulation of interest in and the study of flowers and horticulture as they pertain to both the individual and the community." The club was governed by elected officers such as president, vice-president, and secretary. The club joined The Garden Club of Georgia, Inc. as well as the Atlanta Garden Center and the National Council of State Garden Clubs, Inc. The club was also a member of the Expressway Beautification Association. The club has supported many organizations such as the Florence Crittenton Home, the Jesse Parker Williams Hospital on Peachtree Street, the American Red Cross, and the Garden Therapy program at the Milledgeville State Hospital. The club has hosted and participated in many flower shows, winning numerous awards.

Scope and Content Note

This collection contains minutes, yearbooks, and scrapbooks that document the social and civic history of the club. Minutes include financial and presidential reports. Scrapbooks provide further detail about the club's flower show participation as well as programs and civic work. Much of the material highlights the garden club activities and speaking engagements of Mrs. Isabelle L. Spearman, one of the club's founding members and past president of the Georgia Daffodil Society.
