Scope and Content

This collection contains letters between Isabel Erlich and her colleagues in the library field, and also publishers. Other material includes correspondence between Alma Hill Jamison, an Atlanta librarian and other librarians, and also author Margaret Mitchell. Most of the letters relate to Civil War research.

Administrative/Biographical History

Isabel Erlich was born in St. Louis, Missouri and graduated from Washington University. After moving to Atlanta she attended the Library School of Emory University and served as head of the Reference Department of the Carnegie Library, the downtown branch of the Atlanta Public Library. She became known as "Atlanta's answer Lady," and assisted Margaret Mitchell in verifying the historical accuracy of Gone With the Wind.
